Meditation For Beginners

Meditation provides us with many amazing benefits. If you've never tried to meditate or are unsure of how to start, that's okay. Just like any other hobby or activity, everyone needs to start somewhere. Here are a few tips to help you get started on your meditation journey!

  1. Choose your environment. First things first, you want to find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed during your meditation session. This will allow you to stay focused and remain in a peaceful state of mind. Feel free to dim the lights, set up some candles, an incense, or a diffuser to really help you relax and set the mood. If you're using a diffuser, it's best to use essential oils that you enjoy and that will help you feel that deep sense of relaxation. Lavender oil is a good option because it is calming and helps to relieve stress and promote relaxation throughout.

  2. Sit comfortably for a few minutes. Starting off, you want to get comfortable and sit up straight. Close your eyes, and breath naturally for a few minutes. Focus your attention on your breathing and how your body moves along with inhaling and exhaling. It is all about being aware of staying in the present moment and noticing your feelings that come up. Do this for a few minutes everyday, and then slowly increase the amount of time you are doing it for. This will make it easier to meditate for longer.

  3. Meditate right when you wake up. So many of us try to get into a daily routine, but find it's hard to start one and stick with it. Meditating right when you wake up each morning will not allow you to put it off throughout the day or possibly even forget about it. Also, it is much easier to convince yourself to do something first thing in the morning, rather than after a long day.

  4. Find a meditation partner or join a community. It's always easier to stick with something if you have a friend doing it with you! It also makes it more fun. This will help you pick up on new techniques and have the support that you may want.

  5. Meditate in your own way. It's extremely important to make your practice your own. Try out different techniques until you find the best way for you. This will help you to receive the full potential benefits. Even try using a meditation guide to help you get started and find out what you like or don't like.
